Little heroes of important themes in John Boyne's novels - lessons for lower secondary school

The work focuses on the main characters in Boyn's novels for young people, through which important themes are explored and significant questions are raised that influence not only the youth but also society. The work examines the content and interpretations of these novels, considering various literary aspects of the works. In detail, the work focuses on literary characters and their characterization, exploring the main protagonists. The author identifies the didactic potential, main themes, and their contribution to youth in the selected novels. The didactic part includes six lessons for the second stage of elementary school, which can be adapted in various ways. The lessons apply the E-U-R teaching model, tandem teaching, and various RWCT (Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking) methods suitable for developing reading literacy. Various teaching organizational forms and reading note-taking methods are used. The lessons are crucial for the work as the author aims to demonstrate the didactic potential of Boyn's novels for youth, in which pupils can find significant themes. If pupils have the opportunity to discover these themes on their own, literature educates them, guides them toward values, and can help them if they find themselves in similar situations. Construction of character in selected socio-critical prose

The goal of this paper is to analyze the manner, in which the main characters in the books Tři kapitoly and Přípravy na všechno. Due to the nature of the narration the paper also analyzes the relation between a character and the narrator. The narratological methods, with the help of which I realise the analysis are presented in the theoretical part. A special attention is paid to similarities and differences in the manner of character and narrator construction and their potential use for social criticism.
Empathy possibilities with literary characters in the reception of Jan Balabán's short stories

This bachelor thesis deals with reader empathy towards literary characters in Jan Balabán's short stories, specifically focusing on the means of text construction that enable this empathy. The theoretical part of the thesis first defines the subjects of the empathic response - the literary character and the reader. Subsequently, the empathic process is also defined. In the practical part, three short stories from different short story collections by Jan Balabán are then analysed, because the sub-research of the bachelor's thesis is focused on the transformation of the means of text construction key to eliciting an empathic response in the context of Balabán's work. The analyses themselves are structured into the different levels of literary character, narrator, story, space-time and language. The analyses then show that the empathic response in the reader is elicited in a similar way in the first two stories, mainly due to the blurring of the distinctions between the narrator's zone and the character's zone, which evokes a similarity with interpersonal interaction, as well as due to the sites of non-determinism that result in the elicitation of so-called external inferences. Theatrical type of the braggart soldier in the play Segunda Celestina (1536) from Feliciano de Silva

This bachelor's thesis studies the speeches of a boastful soldier in the play of Feliciano de Silva Segunda Celestina. Based on his speeches, I found out how the researched subject of interest corresponds to this type of soldier and how it differs. The role model for my researched character was Spanish soldier Centurio. I focused on the typical behaviour of this type of medieval soldier, which is based on bragging about the fights and love skills and analysed this behaviour. Besides these two characters, the thesis also deals with specific characteristics, usual behaviour, predictable reactions, or characters who surround the soldier in the brag situations.
Interpretation of the main characters of The Witcher Saga based on qualitative research

This thesis explores how upper primary schoolers interpret characters of the popular series The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. Given their reading experience and mental development, pupils at this age are becoming the series' target audience. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the reader to the world of The Witcher through the life and work of its author. Model character descriptions are also provided. They attempt to complexly explore possible ways of describing select characters from the series through various means of characterization. In the practical part of the thesis, character typology is offered based on some key traits shared by certain characters. This typology is then used in a small-scale qualitative research done on readers who have read the series and are capable of interpreting its characters. Three main types of characters are introduced - protagonists (characters connected by their destiny), antagonists (characters capable of evil acts in the name of prophecy) and other characters who are connected with the protagonists by shared goals and heroic transformation. This bachelor thesis focuses on the character of "a good person" that is in all works by Božena Němcová. The theoretical part deals with the time context of her work and on the author's life. In the following analysis of chosen short stories - Karla, Divá Bára, Chudí lidé a Dobrý člověk - special character features of the good-person type are discovered. This type should help to reduce the social evil by playing the part of a model.

This diploma thesis is focused on a comprehensive analysis of the characters in the stories by Božena Němcová. The theoretical part is devoted to the theory of the formation of literary figures. In the practical part we follow the characters affected by mutual relations, environment and the society in which they live. We concentrate on the most important author's stories: Pomněnka šlechetné duše, Baruška, Chudí lidé, Sestry, Dobrý člověk, Divá Bára, Karla, Chyže pod horami, Cesta z pouti. In the stories Němcová offered a view of the Czech country people, patterns for her work Němcová acquired during her travels and from the telling of local residents. In her works, Němcová leaves her characters speak the local dialect, picturing local costumes, customs and culture. The characters are emotionally rich, elaborated, credible, partly idealized. In the work the author expressed several ideas which the society should follow.
From horror character to girl's idol. Vampire in contemporary literature for young adults

This thesis deals with the evolution of vampire as a literary character in contemporary production for young adults. Its aim is not to describe all existing works but to cover only the most interesting representations of a vampire in various epochs. The thesis describes the most influential works building the literary stereotype of a vampire and proposes an evolution line. The crucial works in this genre are: Vampire, Carmilla, Dracula, Interview with a Vampire, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Twilight, House of Night, Vampire Academy and Vampire Boardingschool. Based on them we create a typology according to the appearance, character and narrative role of a vampire. The thesis begins with an anthropological introduction, especially with the origin of the vampires in Easteuropean folk tradition. Farther more we deal with most common genres used to enrich the vampire literature and theory of a literary character as a narrative category. The analysis covers the evolution of a vampire character from its naturalistic appearance to its very civilized pole in the contemporary young adults fiction. We close with the chapter describing the character of a vampire as a literary symbol.
Characters in Vasil Bykav's works

This bachelor thesis deals with literary analysis of characters in works of Belarusian writer Vasil Bykaŭ. Despite numerous translations, his works are not yet thoroughly researched in czech context. Primary this thesis is focused on contribution of the current narrative analysis which has been neglected. First chapter outlines Bykaŭ's works with emphasis on his approach to shaping the characters in the broader context of the main tendencies of Soviet war literature of the second half of the 20th century. The following chapter explains the most common procedures of the construction of Bykaŭ's characters and describes an analysis of other narrative categories which are essential for complete character modeling. The third chapter focuses on a brief typology of the characters appearing across Bykaŭ's works; in the centre of attention, there are the ways in which the author transforms and enriches the canonical index of socialist realism (war literature) characters.
